Modern Foreign Languages
MFL Statement of Intent
At Priors Wood School, we believe that learning a modern foreign language enriches the curriculum and provides opportunities to foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. Learning a new language helps children develop communication skills, enhances cultural awareness, and lays the foundation for future language learning.
The main language taught at Priors Wood School is Spanish. Spanish is an official language of 21 countries across three continents. It is the UN’s third most used language, the EU’s fourth and is an official language of many other international institutions. Therefore, we feel it is a very useful language for the children to learn.
Aims and Impact
The aims of MFL at Priors Wood are:
- To develop the ability to communicate effectively in another language.
- To foster an interest and enjoyment in language learning.
- To enhance pupils’ understanding of different cultures and their traditions.
