Intent for the Teaching of Mathematics
At Priors Wood Primary School, it is our intent for the mathematics curriculum to make maths relevant and engaging, linking lessons to real life examples and situations, and giving the learning a purpose. We believe that our maths curriculum should provide all pupils with the ability to explore how much maths is used in everyday life.
We aim to empower every student with the knowledge, skills, and mindset necessary to navigate the complexities of the modern world through the lens of mathematical reasoning. Our goal is to provide a robust and dynamic mathematical education that will promote a life long love of learning maths.
We aim to ensure that pupils develop a deep understanding of fundamental mathematical concepts. This foundation is critical for mastering more advanced topics and for applying mathematical reasoning in real-world situations. Through the teaching of mathematics, we strive to cultivate pupils' ability to think critically, analyse problems, and devise effective solutions. Problem-solving is at the heart of our mathematics curriculum, encouraging pupils to approach challenges with confidence and creativity. We intend to equip pupils with the ability to articulate mathematical ideas clearly and coherently. This includes explaining their reasoning, engaging in mathematical discussions, and using precise mathematical language.
